Vocal and Musical Programme by the “Sliema” Youth Band / Orchestra under the direction of the “Sliema” Band Assistant Band director Mro Sigmund Mifsud at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta. Fro another year this Concert was organised together with the Sisters “Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” in aid of their mission to build a school for abandoned children in Kenya. In this Concert together with the “Sliema” Youth Band and an orchestra element there was the participation of popular singers Fabrizio Faniello, Claudia Faniello, Philippa Farrugia Randon and Nadine Axisa together with solo saxafonist Walter Vella and euphonium duet by Aurelio Belli and George Camilleri. Amongst the various works of music presented there was the euphonium duet “Unforgettable Love” by Mro Paul Borg, a musical arrangment by Sigmund Mifsud of the “Exodus” by Ernest Gold, a selection from the film “Chicago” by John Kander and “Raiders March” from Indiana Jones by John Williams. Various sketches were held applauded and cheered by the numerous audience present especially in the special arrangment of Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”. The programme came to end with all singers and saxofonist Vella playing and singing the popular “Let it Be” and then the “Inno Sliema” of Cardenio Botti amongst the now famous claps of the audience present.

The Valparaiso University Chamber Concert Band from Indiana, USA, performed a musical concert in the “Cultural Performance Hall” of the “Sliema” Philharmonic Society at 10.30 am.

This leading American Band performed lively and contemporary works amongst which by John Philip Sousa, Johan De Meit, Alan Houhaness, Robert Foster and Alfred Reed ending with an ovation for the anxiously attended "Stars and Stripes for Ever".

The Valapraiso Chamber Concert Band was conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Scott Doebler who received the prestigious Orpheus Award “For Significant and Lasting Contribution to the Cause of Music in America”.

Present for the Concert was a very numerous attendance amongst whom the President Emeritus of the Society His Excellency Dr. Censu Tabone and the Public Affairs Representative of the United States Embassy Mr Eric Holmolsen.

Opera and Musical Programme under the title "Concert for Europe" by the "Sliema" Band celebrating its International Success with the Concert for Europe in Brussels and the Opening of the Cultural Performance Hall in the Society's Premises in Sliema, with the special participation of Italian Opera singers, soprano Eva Zampieron from Venice and Tenor Marco Voleri from Livorno at the Sir Temi Zammit Auditorium, University of Malta, Msida.

The "Sliema" Band was conducted by Mro Ronnie Debattista FLCM, the programme was presented by Joyce Guillaumier while the Band Leader was Mro William Debattista.

Devoted Procession with the Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows from the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sliema. The procession started at 7 pm and went on around various streets of the Parish accompanied by a lage number of devoters.

A Car Wash was organised by the Feast Commission to raise funds for the coming Feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Easter Football Tournament organised by the Youth Section of the Sliema Philharmonic Society. The Tournament was played on two days, Sunday 20th March and Sunday 27th March and was played at the Training Grounds of Sliema Wanderers FC at Tal-Qroqq, University of Malta.

Four Teams took part in the Tournament :- Old Blues ; Small Eagles ; All Blacks ; Equipe De Fuego.

The Sliema Band accompanied the Procession with the Statues of the Holy Cross and the Ecce Homo from the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Sliema (Sacro Cuor) around various streets of the Parish.

The Procession passed from St. Trophimus Str, St. Mary Str, Carmel Str, St. Dominic Str, Manwel Dimech Str, St. Joseph Str, and St. Trophimus Str back to the Church.

These Funeral Marches can be found on the Compact Disc recorded by the Sliema Band which can be bought from the Society's Premises.

Maundy Thursday Activity

Seven Visits and Adoration fo the Cross around Parishes in Sliema organises by the Sliema Philharmonic Society.
The Adoration was accompanied with the rosary and prayers by the Sacro Cuor Parish Priest Rev. Fr. George Bugeja OFM.

The Adoration started at the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sacro Cuor) and proceeded to visit St. Patrick's College ; The Salesians ; The Ursuline Sisters ; St Gregory Parish Church and back to the Sacro Cuor Parish Church.

Master Trivia - A Quiz organised by the Youth Section of the Society. Five Teams of five players participated. The winning team will be given the presentation on Sunday 5th June - Society's Day.
